VCE — Venice (Marco Polo) — Taxi Fare Guide

Venice, Italy

Venice sits on water, so a road taxi can only reach the western edge of the historic city at Piazzale Roma; from there you continue on foot or by vaporetto (water bus) into the car-free centre. Licensed white land taxis wait at the official rank outside the Marco Polo terminal, coordinated by Radiotaxi Venezia.

The land taxi fare from the airport to Piazzale Roma is a fixed €40, which the operator states already includes luggage; a modest airport-link fee and a night/holiday supplement (roughly €3–5) may still apply. The trip over the Ponte della Libertà bridge takes about 15–20 minutes. Avoid unofficial drivers touting inside the terminal.

To reach a hotel deep inside Venice you will need a water taxi (motoscafo) from the airport's boat dock. These sleek private launches are convenient but expensive: budget roughly €120–160 to central Venice for a shared-boat or standard private transfer, and more for door-to-door service with several passengers and bags. A cheaper shared option lands around €35–45 per person.

Ride-hailing apps are limited for the water crossing, though FreeNow covers land taxis. The cheapest routes into town are the ATVO/ACTV airport buses to Piazzale Roma or the Alilaguna scheduled waterbus, both a fraction of a taxi fare.

DestinationApprox. fareTime

Central Venice (shared water taxi, per person)€35–4545–75 min
Practical tips: Remember a land taxi only reaches Piazzale Roma, not your hotel inside Venice. Confirm the fixed €40 fare and use only the official rank; for the historic centre budget for a water taxi or save money with the Alilaguna/ACTV boat, and watch for a night surcharge.
💡 Fares shown are approximate estimates and can vary with traffic, time of day, luggage and operator. Always confirm the price before your trip and use official, licensed taxis or a pre-booked transfer.
