BCN — Barcelona (El Prat) — Taxi Fare Guide
Official black-and-yellow Barcelona taxis queue at the ranks directly outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 arrivals. Fares are metered, not flat, set by the metropolitan taxi authority (AMB). There is no single fixed price to the city, but a €4.50 airport supplement and a €21 minimum fare apply to airport journeys.
The meter uses a daytime tariff (roughly a €2.75 start plus about €1.32/km on weekdays) and a higher night/weekend tariff (about €1.62/km). In practice a taxi to central Barcelona (Plaça de Catalunya, Eixample, Gothic Quarter) typically comes to about €35-45, more at night, on weekends or with heavy luggage. The journey is short — usually 20-40 minutes — as the airport is only about 12-15 km from the centre; rides from T1 take a little longer than from T2.
Ride-hailing is limited compared with other cities: Cabify, Bolt and Uber (operating via licensed VTC/taxi) are available but subject to Catalan regulations, and street taxis are usually the fastest option. Fixed-price pre-booked transfers are also common.
| Destination | Approx. fare | Time |
| Plaça de Catalunya / city centre | €35-45 | 20-35 min |
| Gothic Quarter / La Rambla | €35-45 | 20-35 min |
| Sants station | €30-40 | 15-30 min |
| Barceloneta / beach | €38-48 | 25-40 min |
Practical tips: Use only the official taxi rank; the €4.50 airport supplement is legitimate and shown separately. Check the meter is running on the correct tariff. Cards are widely accepted and tipping is not expected (rounding up is fine). Fares are approximate and vary with traffic, luggage and time of day. Note the T-2 night/weekend tariff pushes prices higher.
