Official white taxis with a red diagonal stripe wait at the taxi ranks outside every terminal (T1, T2, T3 and T4). Take the marked rank only and ignore anyone offering rides inside the terminal. All Madrid airport taxis are licensed by the city.

Madrid operates an official fixed flat fare of €33 for any trip between Barajas and a destination inside the M-30 ring road, which covers the entire city centre (Sol, Gran Via, Atocha, Salamanca, etc.). This price is set by the city, applies 24 hours a day including nights and holidays, and allows no supplements for luggage, phone/app booking or time of day. Note some older guides quote €30, but the current fixed rate is €33.

For destinations outside the M-30, the meter runs normally with a set minimum: trips under 9 km from the airport start at a €22 flat, after which the meter continues. Beyond the ring road expect roughly €40-€60 to outer districts. Drivers must accept cards.

Uber, Bolt, Cabify and FreeNow all operate at Barajas with pick-up at designated points and fares often close to the €33 taxi rate. The Metro (Line 8) and Cercanias train are much cheaper alternatives to the centre.

DestinationApprox. fareTime
City centre (inside M-30: Sol, Gran Via, Atocha)€33 (fixed)25-40 min
Salamanca / Retiro€33 (fixed)25-35 min
Chamartin Station (near M-30)€33 (fixed)20-30 min
Outside M-30 (outer districts)€40-€60 (metered)30-45 min

Practical tips: Confirm your destination is inside the M-30 to get the €33 fixed fare, use only the official terminal ranks, and pay by card if you prefer. Keep the printed fare card handy if the driver disputes the flat rate. Fares are approximate and metered trips vary with traffic.
