A typical run to Central Jakarta (Sudirman, Thamrin, Menteng) totals about IDR 150,000–250,000. Tolls on the airport expressway (roughly IDR 15,000–20,000) are paid separately and in cash — the driver will ask you to cover them, which is normal and correct.
Traffic is the biggest variable in Jakarta. A ride that runs IDR 180,000 in light traffic can climb to IDR 300,000–350,000 during morning and evening rush hours because the meter keeps ticking while you sit still — the per-km rate does not change. Budget 45–90 minutes and keep small cash for tolls and tips.

Other ways to the city
Jakarta is one of the few Southeast Asian capitals with a proper airport rail link, and it is usually the smartest choice at rush hour:
- Railink Airport Train - runs from the dedicated airport station to BNI City (Sudirman Baru) and Manggarai in central Jakarta in about 45-55 minutes for roughly IDR 70,000. Reserved seating, air conditioning and luggage racks. From Manggarai you can connect to the KRL Commuterline network.
- Free Skytrain (people-mover) - links Terminals 1, 2 and 3 with the Railink station every 15-30 minutes at no charge.
- DAMRI airport buses - an extensive network of air-conditioned coaches to Gambir, Blok M, Kemayoran, Bekasi, Bogor, Depok and more, for around IDR 40,000-75,000. Cheap and comfortable, but exposed to Jakarta's traffic.
- TransJakarta BRT connection - the busway network can be reached from Kalideres or via DAMRI, with fares of only IDR 3,500 once you are on the system. Best for light luggage.
- Grab / Gojek - ride-hailing is widespread and typically undercuts the metered taxi, with designated pickup points at each terminal.
