Kempegowda International Airport lies about 35–40 km north of central Bengaluru, so this is one of India's longer airport transfers — budget 60–90 minutes, or more in rush-hour traffic. For a fixed, hassle-free rate, use the official prepaid taxi and KSTDC counters inside the arrivals hall, or licensed operators such as Meru and Mega Cabs. You pay at the counter, receive a receipt, and are matched to a driver — no on-road haggling.
The airport publishes regulated fares: a base of around INR 100 for the first 4 km and about INR 24 per km for an AC sedan, plus waiting charges. In practice a metered/prepaid ride to the central business district works out to roughly INR 1,000–1,800. Expressway and NICE-road tolls (a few hundred rupees) are added on top, and a night surcharge applies in the late hours.
Fares vary by district: MG Road, Koramangala and Indiranagar typically land in the INR 1,000–1,400 range, while farther-out tech hubs like Whitefield or Electronic City can reach INR 1,500–2,200. Fares are about INR 250-350 and buses have dedicated luggage bays.
- Suburban rail - a halt station near the airport connects to services towards Yelahanka and Bengaluru Cantonment, cheap at under INR 50, though frequencies are limited and a shuttle is needed from the terminal.
- Ola and Uber - the default choice for most travellers, with a well-organised pickup zone. Expect INR 800-1,500 to the centre, more with surge pricing.
- Prepaid taxi counters - located in arrivals with fixed rates, useful if you prefer to settle the fare before you set off.
- Meru and other fleet operators - traditional radio taxi companies still operate from the airport, generally priced between the bus and a surge-priced app ride.
