BOM — Mumbai — Taxi Fare Guide
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) has regulated prepaid taxi and cool cab (air-conditioned) counters in the arrivals hall, usually just before or after customs. Paying at the counter is the safest option because you fix the price in advance and avoid negotiation or meter tampering; you receive a receipt with your destination and fare.
Prepaid and cool-cab fares are set by distance zone. Popular nearer destinations such as Bandra run about INR 350-450, while south Mumbai areas like Colaba, Fort, or Nariman Point are roughly INR 600-900. Regular black-and-yellow metered taxis are cheaper but less reliable for visitors; cool cabs cost a little more for the air-conditioning and cleaner vehicles. Prepaid rates were revised upward in recent years, so confirm the current tariff at the counter.
Journey time varies enormously with Mumbai's notorious traffic: 30 minutes off-peak to Bandra, but 45-75 minutes to south Mumbai during rush hour. All payment is in Indian Rupees.
Ride-hailing via Uber and Ola is fully available from designated pickup zones at both T1 and T2 and is often cheaper than prepaid taxis, but surge pricing during peak hours or late nights can push fares 2-3 times higher. The apps are popular with travellers for transparent, cashless fares.
| Destination | Approx. fare | Time |
| Bandra | INR 350-450 | 25-40 min |
| Colaba / Fort (south Mumbai) | INR 700-900 | 45-75 min |
| Lower Parel / Worli | INR 500-700 | 35-60 min |
| Powai | INR 350-500 | 25-40 min |
Practical tips: Use the official prepaid or cool-cab counter and keep the receipt, carry small-denomination rupee notes, and compare with Uber/Ola while watching for late-night surge pricing. Allow generous extra time during Mumbai's heavy rush-hour traffic.
