Official silver airport taxis wait at the dedicated rank outside Arrivals and operate 24/7. All journeys are metered under Abu Dhabi Mobility (ITC) regulation, so there is no need to negotiate a flat price. A small airport starting surcharge is added to the meter on pick-up, but the total to the city remains modest.
Fares to the downtown Corniche/Tourist Club area typically run AED 70-90, with a night tariff (starting fare a few dirhams higher after 22:00) and a higher flag-fall than street taxis. Because the ride is metered, the final amount depends on the route and traffic rather than a fixed quote. Always confirm the meter is running.
Ride-hailing via Careem and Uber also serves AUH and is comparable in price to a metered taxi; the app shows the fare upfront, which many travellers prefer for transparency. Pre-booked private transfers and limousines cost significantly more (AED 150+).

Other ways to the city
Abu Dhabi has no airport rail link, but the public bus network is cheap, air-conditioned and reliable. Buses require a Hafilat card, sold at the airport bus stop and at bus stations.
- Bus A1 - the main airport service, running roughly every 30-40 minutes around the clock to the Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station on Hazza bin Zayed Street via the city centre. About AED 4 and 45-60 minutes.
- Bus E101 - direct inter-city coach to Dubai, terminating at Ibn Battuta Metro Station, for around AED 30 and roughly two hours, connecting straight into the Dubai Metro Red Line.
- Bus X90 / inter-city services - links towards Al Ain and other emirates depart from the Central Bus Station, an A1 ride from the terminal.
- Hotel shuttles - many Yas Island and Saadiyat properties run complimentary airport transfers; check when booking, as the airport is close to both.
