Sweden's taxi market is deregulated, which means different companies at Arlanda charge very different prices for the same trip. To operate at the airport a company must have an agreement with the airport operator Swedavia, which caps the maximum fare, but within that cap prices vary a lot - so it is essential to check the price before you get in.
Most reputable companies offer a fixed price to central Stockholm rather than a meter. Typical fixed fares run SEK 495-675 for the roughly 40 km trip, applying to 1-4 passengers and a single address. Budget operators advertise from around SEK 495, while the larger firms sit at the upper end. Swedavia's agreement sets a maximum fare of around SEK 675 within the marked zone (up to about SEK 825 for wider areas), so beware any quote far above this.
The drive takes about 40 minutes depending on traffic. Uber and Bolt operate at Arlanda and can undercut street taxis. Whatever you choose, look at the yellow price sticker in the rear side window and agree the fixed price with the driver before departure. For value, the Arlanda Express train reaches central Stockholm in about 20 minutes.

Practical tips: Always agree the fixed price before getting in and check the yellow price sticker in the window, since fares vary hugely between companies. Avoid quotes far above the ~SEK 675 zone cap. Cards are accepted everywhere. For the best value, the Arlanda Express train is much faster and cheaper for the trip into town.
Other ways to the city
Arlanda has two railway stations plus a busy coach terminal, so you rarely need a car.
- Arlanda Express - the fastest link, reaching Stockholm Central in 18 minutes with departures every 10-15 minutes. Tickets cost around SEK 340 one way, with discounts for under-26s and for booking online in advance.
- Flygbussarna airport coaches - to Cityterminalen next to Stockholm Central in about 45 minutes for roughly SEK 129-159, a good value compromise.
- SJ and Marks commuter trains - regional and pendeltag services stop at Arlanda C and cost less than the Express, but a station passage fee of about SEK 150 applies on top of the ticket.
- Long-distance trains - direct SJ services connect Arlanda to Uppsala (18 minutes), Gavle and beyond without going into Stockholm.
- Bus 583 - a cheap local bus to Marsta station, where you can join the commuter train and avoid the passage fee.
