Haneda Airport has official taxi ranks outside the arrivals level of each terminal, and staff help direct you to the queue. Tokyo taxis are metered and honest, but they are expensive by global standards. Because Haneda sits inside Tokyo (unlike distant Narita), the fare to the city centre is far more reasonable.

A metered ride to central Tokyo generally costs about yen 6,000-10,000 depending on your exact ward and traffic. Several operators also offer fixed (flat) fares for airport transfers: for example, Haneda to Shinjuku is roughly yen 8,300 as a fixed fare, which protects you from traffic jams. In addition to the fare, expressway tolls of up to about yen 1,950 are charged separately, and a night surcharge of roughly 20% applies between 22:00 and 05:00.

Journey time is usually 30-45 minutes to central wards, though rush-hour traffic can extend this. Flat-fare taxis generally require a short wait or a booking, while the meter is the default if you simply take the next taxi in the rank.

Ride-hailing through the GO taxi app and Uber (which dispatches licensed taxis in Tokyo) is widely used and often shows the fare estimate up front, which is convenient for visitors who prefer cashless payment.

Practical tips: Confirm whether you want the meter or a fixed fare before departing, budget extra for expressway tolls and the late-night 20% surcharge, and note that most Tokyo taxis now accept credit cards and IC cards such as Suica.
