BER — Berlin (Brandenburg) — Taxi Fare Guide
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) has official taxi ranks outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Berlin taxis are metered, not flat-rate, so there is no single fixed fare into town; the meter determines the price by distance and time. The city centre (Mitte) is about 27 km northwest of the airport.
Expect roughly €60-€75 to central Berlin (Mitte / Alexanderplatz area), with the total set by the meter. Berlin's tariff starts at €4.30, then charges around €2.80/km for the first 3 km, €2.60/km up to 7 km, and about €2.10/km beyond, plus a small €1.50 surcharge that applies to all rides originating at BER. There is no separate night surcharge.
The journey typically takes 40-50 minutes but longer in rush hour. Drivers must accept at least three common credit cards, though carrying some cash is wise. For a short hop, Berlin also offers a fixed 'Kurzstrecke' rate, but that does not apply on the long airport run.
Ride-hailing apps FreeNow, Uber and Bolt all operate at BER with designated pickup points and are often competitive with metered taxis, though prices surge at peak times. The Airport Express (FEX) train and S-Bahn are much cheaper alternatives into the city.
| Destination | Approx. fare | Time |
| Mitte / Alexanderplatz (city centre) | €60-€75 | 40-50 min |
| Charlottenburg / City West | €65-€80 | 45-55 min |
| Kreuzberg / Friedrichshain | €55-€70 | 35-45 min |
| Potsdam | €55-€70 | 40-50 min |
Practical tips: Take taxis only from the official ranks at T1/T2 and check the meter is running. Confirm card payment is accepted before you set off. The €1.50 BER pickup surcharge is legitimate and added to the meter. If travelling light and on a budget, the FEX or S-Bahn (S9/S45) reaches central Berlin for a few euros.
