MAN — Manchester — Taxi Fare Guide
Licensed black cabs (hackney carriages) wait at the official taxi ranks at each terminal at Manchester Airport. These are metered and can be taken without pre-booking. There is no single set airport-to-city fare - the meter calculates the cost based on distance, time of day and vehicle size for the roughly 10-mile trip into central Manchester.
A metered ride to the city centre typically costs GBP 25-30 during the day and rises to about GBP 30-36 at night (roughly 22:00 to 06:00), when higher tariffs apply. Journey time is usually 25-30 minutes but can stretch in rush-hour traffic. Extra passengers and luggage may add to the fare.
Pre-booked private hire and fixed-price transfers are widely available and often better value: fixed cabs to the centre commonly start around GBP 34 with a guaranteed price. Uber and Bolt both operate at MAN. Note that ride-hailing and pre-booked cars use a designated pickup area rather than the black-cab rank. The train from the airport station to Manchester Piccadilly (about 15-20 minutes) is the cheapest option.
| Destination | Approx. fare | Time |
| Manchester city centre (day) | GBP 25-30 | 25-30 min |
| Manchester city centre (night) | GBP 30-36 | 25-30 min |
| Manchester Piccadilly station | GBP 25-32 | 25-30 min |
| Fixed pre-booked transfer to centre | from GBP 34 | 25-30 min |
Practical tips: Use the official black-cab rank for metered rides, or pre-book for a guaranteed fixed price. Night fares (22:00-06:00) are higher. Cards are accepted in licensed cabs. If you have light luggage, the train to Piccadilly is faster and far cheaper than a taxi.
