DMK — Bangkok (Don Mueang) — Taxi Fare Guide
Don Mueang (DMK) is Bangkok's older, secondary airport, about 25 km north of the city centre. Public metered taxis queue at the official taxi stand on the ground floor of the terminal, and staff issue a ticket with your cab's plate number. The airport requires drivers to use the meter, so there is no flat rate for standard public taxis and you should refuse any driver who offers a fixed price inside the terminal.
The fare is the meter plus a 50 THB airport surcharge. A typical ride to central Bangkok totals around THB 300-500 depending on your destination and traffic. Nearly all routes to the centre use the Don Muang Tollway and city expressways, and those tolls (about THB 60-80) are paid by the passenger on top of the fare. Bangkok's meter starts at THB 35, so most of the cost is distance and toll.
Journey time is usually 30-50 minutes, but Bangkok traffic can push trips well past an hour in the evening rush. Sukhumvit and Silom business districts are the most common destinations.
Ride-hailing with Grab (and Bolt) is very popular from Don Mueang, with clearly marked pickup points and up-front pricing; it often costs a little more than the meter but removes the surcharge-and-toll guesswork and language barrier.
| Destination | Approx. fare | Time |
| Sukhumvit (Asok / Nana) | THB 350-500 | 35-55 min |
| Silom / Sathorn | THB 400-550 | 40-60 min |
| Khao San Road / Old City | THB 300-450 | 30-50 min |
| Chatuchak / Ladprao | THB 200-350 | 20-35 min |
Practical tips: Insist on the meter, expect the 50 THB airport surcharge and roughly THB 60-80 in tollway charges on top, carry small baht notes for the tolls, and consider Grab for fixed, English-friendly pricing during heavy traffic.
