TPE — Taipei (Taoyuan) — Taxi Fare Guide

Taipei, Taiwan

Taoyuan airport taxis queue at official ranks outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 arrivals, with staff helping direct passengers. Taipei taxis are metered and honest; the fare to central Taipei typically runs NT$1,000–1,400 depending on district and traffic, with a journey of about 40–60 minutes. Highway tolls may be added. A NT$20 night surcharge applies to all metered fares between 23:00 and 06:00, and there can be a small luggage/airport fee.

In addition to the meter, some airport taxi services and pre-booked operators offer a fixed flat rate to Taipei (commonly quoted around NT$1,000–1,200), which is useful for peace of mind and late-night arrivals when the MRT has stopped. Confirm whether the quote is fixed or metered and whether tolls are included before departing. Taxis run 24/7, making them the go-to for very early or very late flights.

Uber operates legally in Taiwan and partners with licensed taxi fleets, so an UberX from TPE is broadly similar in price to a metered taxi. Popular local apps include Taiwan Taxi (55688), Yoxi and LINE GO; DiDi is not a major player. For most travelers the Airport MRT or a bus beats any car on price for the airport run.

DestinationApprox. fareTime
Taipei Main StationNT$1,000–1,300~40–50 min
Ximending / ZhongzhengNT$1,000–1,300~45 min
Xinyi / Taipei 101NT$1,200–1,500~50–60 min
BanqiaoNT$900–1,200~35–45 min

Practical tips: Use only the official taxi ranks or a booked ride; drivers use the meter, so make sure it's running unless a fixed rate is agreed. Add NT$20 late at night (23:00–06:00) and confirm tolls. Keep your hotel address in Chinese to show the driver. Cash is always accepted; many taxis and all apps take cards/EasyCard.

Other ways to the city

The Taoyuan Airport MRT is the fastest, cheapest and most reliable link into Taipei, plus frequent buses cover the same route 24/7.

  • Taoyuan Airport MRT (Express, purple line): Terminals 1 & 2 → Taipei Main Station in about 35–40 min for roughly NT$160, running every 15 minutes during the day. Trains operate roughly 06:00–24:00; pay with EasyCard or a single-journey token.
  • Kuo-Kuang Bus 1819: TPE → Taipei Main Station for about NT$135, roughly 55–70 min, operating 24 hours — the best choice for late-night or early-morning arrivals when the MRT has stopped.
  • Other airport buses: routes such as 1960 (to Songshan/Xinyi area) and 1961 (to Banqiao) offer direct coach links to different districts for around NT$90–145.

Buy MRT tokens or an EasyCard at the station; buses accept cash and EasyCard. From Taipei Main Station you can connect to the city MRT network or a short metered taxi to your hotel.
