RAK — Marrakesh (Menara) — Taxi Fare Guide

Marrakesh, Morocco

Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) is only about 6 km from the Medina and central Marrakesh, a 15–20 minute drive. There is an official taxi rank outside Arrivals staffed by the beige "petit taxis". Morocco sets regulated rates, and the fair official price to the city centre is roughly MAD 70 by day and about MAD 100 at night (a 50% night surcharge applies after 8 pm). The catch: airport drivers very rarely switch on the meter, so you must agree the fare verbally before getting in.

It is common for drivers to open with MAD 150–200 for tourists — this is well above the regulated rate and can be politely declined or negotiated down. Petit taxis officially carry up to three passengers; larger groups or those with luggage use the beige/cream "grand taxis", which charge a fixed higher rate (often MAD 150–250 to the centre). Confirm the number of passengers and bags in the quoted price to avoid a top-up demand on arrival.

Ride-hailing is limited in Marrakesh: Uber does not operate, and while Bolt and the local inDrive app exist, coverage and airport pickup can be unreliable, and street taxis remain the norm. Many riads and hotels offer a pre-arranged airport transfer for a fixed MAD 150–200 with a name sign at Arrivals, which many visitors find the least stressful option for a first arrival.

Practical tips: Agree the fare before you sit down and have small dirham notes ready, as drivers rarely give change and cards are not accepted. Withdraw cash at the airport ATM first. If the driver refuses a reasonable price, simply walk to the next taxi — there are always plenty. A small tip of a few dirham is appreciated but not required.

💡 Fares shown are approximate estimates and can vary with traffic, time of day, luggage and operator. Always confirm the price before your trip and use official, licensed taxis or a pre-booked transfer.
